Travel Day - Friday, May 20, 2022

Gayle: Since this cruise wasn’t on our planned 2022 Trip Calendar (or budget!), we decided to take the most cost-effective (for us) flight. A direct Southwest from Indianapolis leaving at 7:45am - OUCH! (I hate mornings, but at least it’s warm and we’re going somewhere happy!)

Kara: Ordinarily the flight part of our trip is uneventful - and this trip is no different. But, if you’d read our other trip reports you might notice there is no requisite pre-flight airport selfie. Why, you ask? Because we were running SUPER late. So late that I walked up and got in the Southwest boarding line just as they started calling my group (I was booked Early Bird thanks to Gayle so it was my responsibility to get seats).

We were late for many reasons. We left a little later than usual, we had to meet up with another traveler who my sister had driven to the airport at 5:45am who’d left his camera in her car which luckily I saw when she stopped to pick up my dog Kona (yes - all that happened before 6 a.m.). And, I misplaced my favorite pair of shoes for a few minutes which resulted in a bit of a search. So, all in all, not a restful start to the travel day.

Gayle: I was also able to book a travel agent rate at the same new Towneplace Suites by Marriott - Orlando Airport that we stayed at in October. No matter how short the stay, we love having our own kitchen, free breakfast, & airport shuttle!

Kara: We’ve certainly become fans of Towneplace Suites. This is now our fourth stay in one and I think I’ve stayed in one on my own and I have two more upcoming. We also made the best of our stay on what turned into a stormy rainy day in Orlando.

After taking the shuttle to the hotel, we decided that Disney Springs® was probably not a great call due to the rain so we grabbed lunch locally and sat at the hotel and chatted and ate. Once we got to our room, we saw that you could watch the Showtime series “First Ladies” at no cost while at the hotel. We are down for a good TV Series - and it was one both of us wanted to watch so hello binge watch.

The show is really interesting and I’m sure we’ll talk about many of the themes they brought up in the show at many times on the trip.

We pre-arranged to grab the shuttle at 8 a.m. back to the airport so we’ll head to sleep pretty early so we can be well rested for embarkation day!
